I heard that DMB changed their taping policy today to state: "Any method of trading that does not involve personal fan interaction defeats the spirit of this goal of the taping policy and is not authorized. In particular, posting audio or video files on web sites for streaming to or downloading by the public, is not authorized."

is this true?

the management gave permission, and the archive holds only those allowed by the taping policy. If it were a problem, antsmarching and all the subsequent ftps wouldve gone under long before.

Unless they are planning on doing the same thing as Phish... which I doubt, and I hope not... livedmb.com? Hehe...

There has been email back and forth but given the holidays and that I am out of the country, there have been delays. These delays have confused things, but I hope in the long term not a big issue.

The last I heard, we will meet with the manager of the group. From our perspective the key is to find a solution that helps the band and everyone else as well.

I am hoping they understand the leadership position they are in and will help not only their band and fans, but help us all derive a win-win-win situation that helps other bands become "Internet Friendly"

fingers crossed. If you know members of the band, you might put in a kind word. Please stear clear of flaming as it would probably not aid the goal of building a great Live Music Archive that so many have spent time on.

(i wont be able to respond much since I am at Internet cafes abroad)

I just got a response from the webmaster at dmband.com and it wasnt half bad :-)

here is a snippet:
"The language exists to discourage
fans from posting audio files on personal websites. A site that is also a
forum for fans of DMB are not likely to be affected."

Best,

DMB Webmaster

lets hope this means only good things...

they have had the thing about "personal fan interaction" on there for a while. the only new thing is the website downloading part

i dont think it would matter anyway since dmb management gave the archive permission to put their shows up. i hope so anyway.
